Xoteck – ( RipCast Streaming Audio Ripper )
Whoa, this is super cool!!! My radio reception is not all that good here in the underground office. Although I’ve got cables going up to ground level, they have been relegated to test purposes. Eg, I’m working on some rf projects for clients, and need outside antenna capability.

So… I’ve been listening to internet radio. Windows media player works ok, but still it seems pretty overhead heavy. I switched to Winamp, which has evovled quite a bit since I first mess with it years ago.

Then of course I wanted more… and found ripcast. What it does is capture the streaming audio and save the individual tunes as mp3′s. At first I thought it was illegal. However, its not unlike capturing broadcasting via a tape deck, which is legel for personal use. As such, the royalties are already paid to the musicians etc through the broadcaster, or in this case, through the streaming audio providers. And yes, those licenses are pretty stiff.

As such, I’m capturing a ton of MP3 files. The really cool part is there are really cool artists I’ve never heard off before. I plan to go through the lists, and based upon reviewing them, buy a few cd’s. Internet music is super cool, and rip cast makes it even cooler!!!
