What blew my mind is that even Kim had to reinstall her OS. Now all of a sudden I don’t fee so bad.
I’ve got a ton of machines around here. I used to have an old Tandy 200. The OS was in ROM. Talk about a great idea. It could not and would not get corrupted.
Since a machine is typically good for 3 years, and that 3-5 years seems to be the trend for Microsoft, barring of course security fixes. Maybe they should make ROM versions. Beed an upgrade, or fix, no need to download, just go get a new ROM. Considering how often an OS seems to go bad, I’d gladly pay $20 twice a year for new ROMs.
So, I’m onto the third pass around trying to debug my system. Otoh, maybe I should switch to Solaris. It can even deal with hardware failures.
