2nd Wind Recumbent Bikes and their Advantages : 2nd Wind Exercise Equipment Blog
Recumbant bikes sort of fit the concepts of Non-exercise activity thermogenesis as discussed previously. So much of the existing research in this arena has focused almost on the treadmill. Considering the additional stresses that can occur to an overweight person’s body, a treadmill might end up creating more problems than it solves. Thus maybe a recumbant bike would make better sense, especially in light of “Recumbent bikes let your body exercise at an angle where your body weight is not stressing your joints. Even people with back and knee problems will find a recumbent bike easy to use.”
And the cool part, is that the concepts of NEAT are mentioned as well. “With the positioning of a recumbent bike, you can multi-task to more easily fit in a workout. You are able to read, catch the news, and even use a phone or your handheld organizer.”
So, now the question is how to integrate a recumbant with an office… and these guys are already thinking ahead, although maybe not with NEAT in mind. The Lemond G-Force already has an accesory holder.<%image(20060407-lemond.jpg|350|350|Lemond G Force)%> So it would seem not all that difficult to add an adaptor to hold a laptop/worksurface. Then probably the only additional function needed, is some type of ergonomic arm rest, and a rolling file cabinet.
This of course is getting me thinking of other blue sky ideas, such as adding ethernet to the recumbant, such that profiles could be stored, and performance data analyzed. One could also tie in temperature, and circadian mental activity, and create suggested profiles, or even auto select a days sequence, based upon data mining of previous profiles, and work activities.
With proper marketing, this could be pretty big, yet another office of the future idea. Yet as Book of Joe alluded to today, its not going viral yet. Maybe its just a matter of time, this squidoo lens walking while working is showing some interest.
