The Sagulator – Shelf Sag Calculator

One of the things that I always found interesting was statics and dynamics coursework back at the U. It was a welcome change from quantum physics, and it was cool to actually see what was going on, rather than having to infer it, from $$$ of instrumentation.

Its many years since I computed real world mechanical parameters, being an electronics/physics guy, and I wanted to check the amount of bending on a wooden beam. In addition, trying to find real world wood parameters is trying at best online, so I was really excited to find the sagulator. I did some tests to validate the results, and they seem to correlate quite well. I am impressed.
