Interesting…. but I think they might have shot themselves in the foot a little by leaving out the specs on the body worn computing device. A power budget of 75nj/bit is a little tight, but not excessively so, given the BIONET criteria. What I percieve to be a big power issue is the power consumed by the DSP which will need to sort out the sensor data and couple it to a body worn computer.
Its interesting how the guys at UT Arlington actually published an interesting synopsis of this fusion problem.

As you might have guessed, I have been down that path before, and it is a most challenging one to keep the fusion budget as low as possible, without increasing the power budjets of the individual nodes and power/bit.
This will certainly be an interesting SBIR solicitation to watch.
