Inside AdSense: Don’t run the risk of click and miss

Interesting….

I actually can see their point, and it makes sense. I have seen pretty deceptive approaches used by webmasters to get folks to click and miss, so I think this is a good idea.

Yet, beyond click and miss, sometimes webmasters just plan miss, and waste their adwords dollars. Ie, if the user clicks on an ad, and goes to a site with either zero meaningful content, or promotes a conversion ratio of zero, they are not going to get any business.

I went over of a friends blog, and checked out his adsense, as the google TOS doesn’t allow me to click on my own. I found an ad of interest, clicked it, and then tried to see if the website made sense and be worth it…. (I think this is probably the first time I have ever clicked on an adsense ad)

Well, the outfit which sells software testing tools might well have a good product, but with such a poorly done webpage, I doubt they are going to sell any. Egads, if you are going to provide example output, make sure you provide a working file, not a 404 error. Also, the lack of any way to order the product seems pretty counterproductive to me. No store, no reps, no distributors, not even contact info. I dount many folks are going to go to whois to try and buy something.

Then again, in all fairness, they might well be a startup, and are just looking to build traffic…. yet, traffic who gets ticked off may never return.

Thus, its a good thing that google wants to prevent click and miss, yet, they best ought not try to tie it to sales, as some folks don’t have a clue.
