Hi -
Excellent post. Hey... I think we're all in search of the ultimate, Alpha/Omega TLA -- Three Letter Acronym. You know, if we simply keep reducing writing to TLA's, then make TLA's of those TLA's... well you get it. Then we will be most efficient... simply "grunting" the master TLA back and forth across blogs, forms, and Twitter. It will mean everything. It will mean nothing. Now that I think about it, maybe the cavemen were a lot smarter than we thought.

yes, quality communication does matter. But it also depends on a case by case basis, if a blog has a very informal tone, then the quality of writing is not as crucial.

Ron, you said, "Where I do have a huge beef, is technical accuracy..." In my world of language, the proper use of it in order to convey the exact message IS "technical accuracy." Grammar has technical rules that are generatively formulated, whether the speaker "speaks correctly" or not. Wars have been fought and lost over misplaced negatives. ;-)

Please re-read my comment and blog post. It is NOT about prescriptive grammar vs descriptive grammar (I'm a fan of the latter, by the way, despite what you may have surmised) but about the use of language and the grammar of the language that conveys certain cues about the speaker's (or writer's) personal brand. That was my point.

I couldn't give two craps about people using "proper English" vs text speak. But, to be unaware that your choice to use one over the other reflects a personal brand choice is just inexcusable willful ignorance.

Speak and write how you like, but be aware others judge you on your choice rather quickly.
